Hull & Superstructure

The North Pacific 450 is designed with a reverse rake pilothouse and bold look to reflect the true capability and function of this long-range coastal cruiser. Large, bonded windows in the salon, pilothouse, and staterooms complement the rugged look with a modern flare- a distinct feature and styling change from the traditional NP45.

The hard chine hull was carefully designed to provide good stability and economy at low-end speeds while providing lift to allow for higher top end speeds when larger engines are chosen. A keel allows the vessel to track well, and you’ll remain in full control at any speed with a large barn door style rudder that, along with the shaft and propeller, is fully protected. The planked look embedded in the fiberglass adds to the character and classic look.

The superstructure is made of fiberglass and cored mostly with a synthetic lightweight closed cell foam, which increases stability and eliminates the possibility of rotten decks. Rigid PVC squares are used in areas that require more strength (where the upper helm seat is bolted for example). The hull and superstructure are a shoebox design and are epoxied and fiberglassed together for a strong and lasting bond.

The hull is solid, hand-laid fiberglass. This makes it both very strong and heavy, which adds to the stability. A vinyl ester resin is used in the outer two layers of the hull to prevent blistering. Below the waterline is additional protection in the form of an epoxy barrier. The stringer grid on the NP450 is exceptionally rigid, increasing the hull strength. Stringers are made on a separate mold and then glassed into the hull, eliminating the need for coring.

Flybridge

The upper deck of the North Pacific 450 can be accessed by stairs on both sides of the pilothouse or the ladder from the cockpit. The custom made ladder stores tightly against the salon bulkhead when not in use to maximize space in the cockpit, and pulls out to a comfortable and safe angle to access the upper deck. This configuration allows easy access around the entire perimeter of the boat, which eliminates the need for side walkway decks. This works well for hanging and retrieving fenders on either side of the boat. The upper deck has enough room for an 11′ dinghy and a high quality electric davit is standard equipment. There is bench seating on the port side of the flybridge, and an L-shape settee on the starboard side, both finished with exterior grade Ultraleather. The tapered table at the L-settee is large enough for several people to gather around for a meal. The area between the settee and bench seat is finished with Flexiteek- a luxurious touch on the NP450. The two helm seats are raised and provide good forward visibility. A large raised dash allows plenty of space for all the standard controls, as well as the standard electronics package. A hardtop above the seating area is standard on the NP450, providing both a platform to mount all of the various antennas and protection from weather. A folding radar arch is an option instead of the hardtop to reduce the air draft.

Foredeck

The foredeck around the bow is accessed through the pilothouse or from the upper deck. High freeboard and heavy-duty 1 ½” stainless steel handrails offer protection and safety. All railings are high polished #316L stainless steel. The railings are bolted into aluminum backing plates that are laid into the fiberglass. Courtesy lights around the foredeck light up the non-skid fiberglass surface, making walking around safer even on a rough night. At the bow is a 24v electric Maxwell windlass. A highly respected Rocna 33 (70#) anchor, with 280 feet of 3/8″ G4 galvanized chain, is standard. This anchoring package helps owners rest easy at night. The split chain locker allows for chain storage on one side and provides a great space for fender and line storage on the other. A molded-in seat at the bow makes an excellent place to enjoy a nice harbor or to cruise with the standard Bluetooth autopilot control.

Cockpit

The cockpit deck of the NP450 is enhanced with integrated, reversible seating. Face forward to dine with others or flip the backrests and high gloss teak table around to enjoy a meal just a few feet from the water. The optional underwater lights make this a nice place to unwind after a day of cruising.

There is a bulwark boarding door on each side as well as two transom doors on each side of the seating. The cockpit is finished with Flexiteek decks. These are synthetic teak decks that look just like real teak but require no maintenance and never fade.

Swim Platform

Just one step down from the cockpit is a large swim deck, also finished with Flexiteek. Storage lockers on each side of the swim deck house a deck washdown connection and a Smartplug shore power connection. A hot/ cold shower is also standard on the NP450. The height of the swim deck aligns nicely with most floating docks. This is also a perfect area to board kayaks, SUPs, and the dinghy.
